Peacock House does The Bold Coast Trail

Yes! We did the whole thing…all 10 miles! Thursday was such a marvelous day that Dennis suggested the idea and we went for it. On trail at 7:45 am Off trail at 2:45 pm. Exactly what the information said it would take – 7 hours. This trail is not an easy one. Lots of up and down, a few times where I had to crawl over rocks on my hands and knees and some sloggy parts…but overall a spectacular hike on a spectacular day. We are so fortunate to have this beatiful coastline so close and so accessible. We thought for sure there would be other folks on the trail , but not a soul in sight. We did however, come out of the trail to find a card on our truck from folks we know in Freeport…only in Maine! Please, if you are able , hike the Bold Coast Trail – you be tired, you’ll be a bit stiff , but you won’t be sorry!

Kitchen Renovation – Part 2

Well, the work continues. This post will feature the paint job. Dennis has chosen to do a faux finish of linen. I was not too keen on it at first, but now that the room is coming together, I must admit he was right . (Drat!) Cabinets have been sanded and re-painted – a long and tedious job. Fabric selection for the valances has begun.Next steps…a new counter , and new flooring.

Another new year, another new project…this time the Peacock House Bed and Breakfast kitchen.
No major structural changes, but lots of “prep-work”.

Part 1 -
Stripping the wallpaper, scraping off the old linoleum and sanding the woodwork. What a mess!

As I look over the history of our blog , there are many posts regarding the physical improvement of Peacock House. In fact,right now, Dennis is renovating our kitchen ( more on that in a later post). But we thought you also might be interested in things we do to update our skills as Innkeepers.

Recently, Dennis and I completed and received certification in a Maine State Required Program called ServSafe. This program reflects the highest standard of food safety training and certification. It is another way for us to be certain we are providing the best Customer Service to our valued guests. There are many ways in which we actively look to improve our services and remain up to date on trends and issues in the hospitality industry -

We are inspected and liscensed by the State of Maine.
We are members of The Maine Innkeepers Association .
We are members of and inspected annually by AAA.
We are members of The Cobscook Area Chamer of Commerce, The Machias Chamber of Commerce and The Eastport Chamber of Commerce.
We attend annual Conferences presented by The Maine Innkeepers Association and The Maine Lodging and Restaurant Association.

Now that the end of Season 10 is upon us, we have had time to relax and think over the year. Dennis and I are grateful for so many things… our continued health, our family and friends and the guests that have crossed our threshold in 2011. We are so very thankful that we can live in Lubec and meet everyone that comes our way. Today the sun is shining and I can look out my kitchen windows to the Lubec Channel Lighthouse. How wonderful is that?! May you and your loved ones experinece the joy of being together during this season of gratitude.

Peacock House has new Front steps

The front steps on Peacock House were too steep and the tread was too narrow…this we have known for a while.
Dennis began the demolition and was joined by his friend Ukey who knew how to “do steps”.

The steps were given wider treads and an easier rise, making them easier to use.
The finished project is another task well-done! Thanks for your help Ukey…we really appreciate it!

Facelift complete!

The front of Peacock House is beautiful! The siding installation is finished, the new shutters (that Dennis made )are up and new hydrangeas are planted under the window boxes! It certainly was worth the noise , the dirt and the inconvenience to everyone. I can say that now because it is over! Hooray!!!

For my Birthday I took the “Lubec to Eastport Ferry”.What a glorious day! I recommend the boat trip to anyone. The water was like glass, the sun was shining ,the fresh air invigorating , and to top it off, the eagles were soaring above. Can life get any better than this? Summer in Lubec has been perfect – so come enjoy!

Peacock House Gets a Face Lift

: Does this look familiar? It doesn’t to me!

Well friends, Peacock House is undergoing a major renovation – new siding. It has been 7 days and I am feeling a bit better about the whole project – now that I can see some progress! Work of this nature seems to take forever…and I am anxious to get it all over with. Our guests, have been terrific and understand that this type of work can only be done during the summer when we are open for business. In a week or two, after this is all over, I will be happy and relieved. New hydrangeas will be planted in the front flower bed and I will be able to look at beautiful new siding! Dennis, of course is busy doing other things around the house – installing new venting in the attic, making new shutters and preparing to paint the back addition. So, there are busy workers all over the place, just trying to make Peacock House the best it can be!
